Two people suffered non-life threatening injuries in a two-car accident Thursday afternoon in the 2500 block of Bernadette Drive, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.

At 4:36 p.m., Angel D. Birdsong, 26, of Brown Station Road, was attempting to exit a private drive in her 1998 Ford Contour and cross four lanes of traffic onto a lot across the street when she pulled into the path of an eastbound 2002 Volkswagen Beetle, driven by Linda L. Askren, the release said.

Askren's vehicle spun out of control into the path of a westbound 2003 Toyota Corolla, driven by Rachel E. King.  King and Askren were both transported to Boone Hospital Center with non-life threatening injuries. King and Askren's condition was unavailable as of 8:50 p.m. Thursday.

Angel Birdsong was issued a summon for failure to yield when exiting a private drive and failure to exhibit proof of insurance, the release said.

All three drivers, as well as a 1-year-old passenger in Birdsong's car, were wearing seatbelts.
