Post-Dispatch endorses Nixon

ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has endorsed Democrat Jay Nixon for Missouri governor over U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof, the Republican gubernatorial candidate from Columbia.

In a Sunday editorial, the newspaper acknowledged its "profound" differences with Nixon, the state's attorney general. But the editorial said Nixon has the talent and "deep-rooted progressive principles to be an excellent governor."

The editorial said that as governor, Nixon will put his "admirable principles before his political ambitions."

The Post-Dispatch also said Missouri's economy needs bolder reform than Hulshof's plans for health care reform and job creation, which rely heavily "on discredited market economics and tax breaks for business."
