Letter: Mary Still will be there for the community

Thursday, July 24, 2008 | 11:07 a.m. CDT

Mary Still is for the people. The accolades listed on her Web site can't possibly paint the whole picture. Mary is an humanitarian. I was lucky to have Mary in my life as a Girl Scout troop leader for over a decade. She was more than just my Girl Scout leader. Mary acted as my mentor, my teacher and my friend, and I might add, she has never missed a beat in these 20 years.

I remember the day I left for college. Before pulling out of the driveway, three months after graduation, here comes Mrs. Still, saying goodbye with a gift I still cherish. Mary knows the meaning of being there for someone, and I know she will be there for the community.

Mary shows up when you least expect it and doesn't forget a soul. With Mary's unselfish character, integrity and nurturing spirit, she speaks volumes as a leader.

Mary Still is the One. Thanks, Mary, for everything you have been in my life. Good luck with everything. You are truly a legacy.
