COLUMBIA — Water flowed furiously down Columbia’s streets early Tuesday morning thanks to a storm that caused several power outages around town.

Sanborn Field on the MU campus recorded 4.42 inches of rain as of late Tuesday afternoon. The severe storm left almost 3,000 Columbia Water and Light customers without power starting as early as 4 a.m.

Large outages in the Green Meadows and Scott Boulevard areas were fixed around 3 p.m., leaving about 200 Columbia Water and Light customers still without power, said Connie Kacprowicz, spokeswoman for the Columbia Water and Light Department.

Kacprowicz said it took a big effort from six water and light crews and electric dispatch to help everyone.
