Two injured in early morning collision

COLUMBIA — Two people suffered minor injuries in an accident in north Columbia early Saturday.

At 1:39 a.m., a vehicle traveling south in the 2300 block of Oakland Gravel Road crossed the center line and collided with a vehicle driven by Brittany Hammell, 20, according to a Columbia Police Department release.

The first vehicle overturned and the driver fled the scene, leaving a passenger, Lynn Murray, 34, in the vehicle. Murray, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. She was later admitted to the hospital, according to the release.

Hammell, who was also wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries. A 1-year-old passenger in her vehicle was restrained by a car seat and was not injured, according to the release.

Both vehicles received extensive damage, according to the release. The investigation is currently ongoing.
