COLUMBIA — A head-on collision near Centralia on Friday killed two Moberly women and seriously injured another.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified the victims as Margaret Hutchings, 68, and Aquilla Britt, 51.
The accident occurred at about 3:10 p.m. Friday on Missouri 22, just east of Missouri 151. Jeffrey Schuermann, 49, of Ashland was driving west when his 2007 Ford F-150 truck crossed the center line and struck a 1988 Volvo station wagon, driven by Hutchings, head-on, the Highway Patrol said.
The Boone Country Fire Protection District responded to the accident at 4:15 p.m. with two fire trucks and 11 firefighters, according to a Fire Protection District release. University Hospital also responded with its Staff For Life helicopter.
Hutchings and Britt were pronounced dead at the scene, the fire district said.
The Volvo’s third passenger, Melissa Blalock, 30, was transported by helicopter to University Hospital, where she is currently in serious condition. None of the victims was wearing a seat belt, the fire district said.
Schuermann, who was wearing his seat belt, was not injured in the accident.
According to the fire district release, Missouri 22 was closed for almost three hours Friday afternoon while the Highway Patrol investigated the accident.
