OKLAHOMA CITY — For the first time in more than a decade a Missouri softball player won an individual Big 12 accolade. For an achievement so rare, there was little suspense surrounding the announcement.
Rhea Taylor, who leads the Big 12 in batting average, stolen bases, hits, runs and triples, was named Freshman of the Year on Friday at the Big 12 Conference awards ceremony in Oklahoma City.

Taylor was also named first team all-conference along with Missouri pitcher and designated player Jen Bruck, first baseman Amanda Renth and second baseman Andee Allen.
Pitcher Stacy Delaney and third baseman Lindsey Ubrun were named to the second team.
Bruck and Renth, the team’s only seniors, have each been named to the all-conference team multiple times. Renth has earned the honor in each of her four years of eligibility while Bruck has been named to the list three times.
Allen and Renth, along with Katie Milles, Gina Schneider and Julie Silver were named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team during the ceremony.
The Tigers will face Texas Tech at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in their first game of the Big 12 tournament. A victory over the Red Raiders would mean a chance to play in front of a national audience on Fox Sports Net. The tournament’s first semifinal, scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, will be shown on the network.
