Wyatt Matthew Smith

For Candace and Shane Smith, having their first child, Wyatt Matthew Smith, has been an exciting experience.
“It’s a little exhausting, but fun,” Candace said.
Wyatt was born at 5:02 p.m. on Jan. 13, 2008, at Boone Hospital Center. He weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces at birth.
Candace said she and her husband have enjoyed the recent warm days because they have been able to get out of the house with the baby. Wyatt has already been to church and to visit his great-grandfather for his 93rd birthday.
Choosing a name for their son took Candace and Shane awhile. The strategy, she said, was flipping through a baby book and listing all of the ones they liked.
“We had quite a list,” she said.
Ultimately, they chose Wyatt because of the meaning — “little warrior.”
Family and friends visit on a regular basis to see baby Wyatt, and Candace said she doesn’t mind showing him off.
“He’s a really good baby,” she said. “He doesn’t fuss much.”
